STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO (May 18, 2006) – To commemorate Moots Cycles’ 25th Anniversary, Silverado Vineyards in Napa Valley, CA has produced Breakaway Red - a 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Bottled exclusively for Moots Cycles in March of 2006, only 100 cases of this blend of predominately Cabernet has been released for wine and cycling enthusiast’s enjoyment.
Located in the heart of Napa Valley's Stags Leap District, Silverado Vineyards is known as one of the region's great estates, producing consistently outstanding wines. Moots Cycles is also an industry leader, known for hand crafting the finest titanium bicycles on the planet from its home in Steamboat Springs, CO. In addition to sharing established reputations within their respective industries, both Silverado and Moots are celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2006.
Breakaway Red is perfect to enjoy with friends after a day in the saddle now, or it will age nicely over the next 8 to 10 years. This Cabernet has a jewel-like deep ruby color and ripe and savory aromas of cinnamon, plum, pipe tobacco and vanilla. It is bright and fruity on the palate, chewy, but with a silky texture and deep flavors.
The wine averaged 24 months in barrels, 20 percent of which were new. French oak accounted for 91 percent of the total and American oak for 9 percent. The overall blend was 70% French and 30% American Oak.
Analysis: Alcohol, 14.3%; titratable acidity, 5.96 grams per liter; pH, 3.67, 0.65 grams per liter VA.
