"Marshall 'Major' Taylor" Book-Signing
7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007
Worcester Public Library, 3 Salem Square, Worcester, Mass.
Meet Marlene Targ Brill of Wilmette, Ill., author of the new biography "Marshall 'Major' Taylor, World Champion Bicyclist" (Lerner Publishing, September 2007).
Learn how Major Taylor, "the Worcester Whirlwind," fought prejudice on and off the bike to become "The Fastest Bicycle Rider in the World" -- world champion in 1899. The author will explain the research and writing process for the book, which is geared to young readers (ages 10-15, Grades 5-9), and sign copies of the book. Book sales will benefit the Major Taylor Association.
Admission is free. Major Taylor posters will be available.
Copies of the book are being supplied to Worcester public schools, and the author will also give daytime presentations to sixth-graders at Elm Park Community School and Chandler Elementary School.
This event is supported by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation (www.greaterworcester.org) and by AdventureCORPS (www.adventurecorps.com).
