SALT LAKE CITY - March 18, 2008 - Bikes for Kids Utah, a non-profit 501(C)3 organization, today announced details of its upcoming bike giveaway and fundraiser bicycle rides, with proceeds going to benefit underprivileged children in Utah and bicycle awareness advocacy.
On Saturday, May 31, Bikes for Kids Utah will provide new bicycles for 1,000 pre-qualified, underprivileged 3rd graders from the Boys & Girls Club Boys in Salt Lake, South Valley and Weber Counties. Also receiving bikes will be 3rd graders from Bennion, Heartland, Lincoln, Majestic, Moss, Plymouth, Riley, Sandy, Riley, McMillan, Liberty, Grant, Guadelupe and Washington elementary schools.
Along with the 1,000 bicycles, the children will also receive helmets, t-shirts and bike locks through proceeds accrued from sponsorships and the fundraising bicycle rides taking place on the same day as the bike giveaway.
"We are really looking forward to our third year with the Bikes for Kids event," said Debbie Reid, founder and director of Bikes for Kids Utah. "Having the event in May, will give the kids time in the summer to really ride their bikes, and May's better weather will mean ideal riding conditions for participants of the fundraising rides. We hope everyone will come out to support deserving children in our community."
Bike Presentation
The bicycles will be given away at the Intermountain Medical Center parking lot (5121 South Cottonwood Street in Murray, Utah) starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, with local and political leaders delivering bikes to a new group of kids every half hour.
