Andreas Klöden (Astana) became the first German ever to win the Tour de Romandie, easily holding on to his overall title in a final stage (Le Bouveret-Lausanne, 159.4 kilometres) which saw Daniele Bennati (Liquigas) take the sprint finish. Roman Kreuziger (Liquigas) was second overall, followed by Marco Pinotti (High Road). SAUNIER DUVAL-SCOTT´s highest climbers in the final GC were José Ángel Gómez Marchante (10th) and Eros Capecchi (16th). On the whole, the team´s performance in the Swiss tour was good, and this earned the "red birds" the third place in the final Teams Classification and the eighth position in the UCI ProTour teams ranking.

Meanwhile, the 52nd Vuelta a Asturias had its second stage today, which was divided into two parts. In the morning, Stefano Garzelli (Acqua & Sapone) scored a sprint win in the 95.5-kilometre race from Gijón to Llanes, after chasing the six breakaways of the day, including SAUNIER DUVAL-SCOTT´s David de la Fuente (on his 27th birthday). In the afternoon, Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi) clocked the best time in the 17.2-kilometre ITT from Nueva to Llanes. LA Aluminios-MSS managed to keep their GC lead, with three men in spots one, two and three: Ángel Vicioso, Xavier Tondo and Tino Zaballa. Two men in yellow, Jesús del Nero and Juanjo Cobo are still among the best ten in the provisional GC; they came in 12th and 17th, respectively, in the afternoon, and thus stuck to their 7th and 8th places overall. Moreover, Beñat Intxausti kept the KOM jersey, while David de la Fuente is atop the Sprints Classification. Tomorrow, the third road stage in Asturias will take the riders from Llanes to Avilés, over 168.2 kilometres.
