Bikes for Kids Utah Issues Call for Volunteers and Donations-3rd Annual Bike Giveaway Non-profit organization is looking for volunteers for and those wanting to donate to the upcoming bike giveaway and fundraiser bicycle rides on May 31
SALT LAKE CITY - May 13, 2008 - Bikes for Kids Utah, a non-profit 501(C)3 organization, today announced that it is seeking volunteers for those wanting to aid in making its bike giveaway and fundraising bicycle rides a success for 1,000 underprivileged children in Utah.
On Saturday, May 31, Bikes for Kids Utah will provide new bicycles for 1,000 pre-qualified, underprivileged third graders from the Boys & Girls Club in Salt Lake, South Valley and Weber Counties. Also receiving bikes will be third graders from Bennion, Heartland, Lincoln, Majestic, Moss, Plymouth, Riley, Sandy, Riley, McMillan, Liberty, Grant, Guadalupe and Washington elementary schools.
Volunteer slots are quickly filling up as the event approaches, but there are still volunteer opportunities available in such positions as:
Bike giveaway (giving the bikes in boxes to children)
Bike safety rodeo
Children registration
Fundraising ride participant registration
"Each year we are able to give 1,000 kids bikes through the efforts of corporate sponsors and donations and local volunteers," said Debbie Reid, founder and director of Bikes for Kids Utah. "Now in our third year, we are reaching out to the members of local communities and asking them to donate both time and/or money to this great cause that enables children to enjoy the outdoors and teaches them valuable lessons in responsibility and safety."
Bikes for Kids Utah receives donations from leading Utah and national corporations to purchase bikes and necessary safety equipment for the children. However, members of local communities can donate to this worthwhile cause, as well. The following is a breakdown of how donations from members of the local communities will be spent to help underprivileged youth:
$50 buys a bicycle, helmet, lock and Bikes for Kids Utah shirt for one child
$40 buys a bike for one child
$5 buys one bike helmet for one child
"It really is inexpensive to provide a bicycle and necessary safety equipment for one child, but Bikes for Kids Utah provides all this for 1,000 children each year and we couldn't do it alone," Reid said. "For as little as a $5 donation - the cost of a bike helmet - people can help ensure Utah kids will be able to have a bike as part of their childhood experience. It's that kind of small gesture from so many individuals that make this program possible."
