After a frustrating 2008, Team Barloworld's Mauricio Soler couldn't start in a better way the new season. The strong Colombian climber achieved an important solo win on his home soil, dominating the "Circuito de Tuta" - close to Boyacà - on Saturday 17, whilst his team mate Felix Cardenas finished second 16" behind. Jaime Chaparro of Elèctricos Duitama rounded out the podium.
The circuit consisted of 20 laps of 3km each and the peloton was composed by the best national and international riders. Because of a very demanding route, many competitors were forced to quit the race, while Mauricio Soler showed an impressive shape just from the beginning. In fact, after few laps Soler decided to give a boost to the rhythm, getting rid of the rest of the peloton.
Soler took the victory with a confortable margin and demonstrated being on the path back to a good shape: an outstanding success in front of the Colombian crowd. Also Felix Cardenas showed his aggressive and smart style of racing, looking forward to the European season with faith, together with the whole Team Barloworld.
The traditional circuit had a festive atmosphere with fans lining the route for the annual tribute to Miguel Sanabria, cyclist and a native of this town who died in a tragic accident; his wife Carmenza with the help of local administration has taken the reins at the head of the circuit Samabria started. Besides the great organization, a massive participation of national and international peloton, the main national and international figures were present to star in a highly competitive environment.
