Give A Child A Bike Kent County Tourism added a LOT of NEW features to the 23rd Amish Country Bike Tour on Sept 12, 2009! 25 mile RACE, Bicycle Rodeo,Decorated Bike Parade for Children.Give a CHILD A BIKE campaign.
This years Bike Tour is reaching out to additional non-profits to make the event even better. The GIVE A CHILD A BIKE campaign has brought in 18 bike with over twenty more promised and more to come. Kent County Tourism sponsors of the Amish Country Bike Tour is working with the Boys and Girls club of Delaware to find bicycles for needy children. The Club will identify and distribute bikes to children that do not own a bike. "No child should grow up without experincing the thrill of riding a bike. It is part of a childhood ritual,"said Robin Coventry, Director of Public Relations and Special Events for Kent County Tourism. The Nemours/A.I. Dupont Childrens Hospital is donating new helmets for all the bikes donated, so each child will be protected while riding their bikes. Delaware law requires that children under 16 wear a helmet when riding their bikes.
Also new this year is the 25 mile TIMED FLAT LAND RACE - Pedal Away Prostate Cancer. Our parter for this event is ProCAP a prostate awareness group. Prostate Cancer has become the leading cause of cancer deaths in men. Registration includes breakfast and a t-shirt. You can register for the Bike Tour and the Race for $50.
