Dani King Wins Again in Belgium! Properpolder in the north of Belgium was the scene of the latest victory for Dani King and the Horizon Fitness Racing Team. Having already finished 3rd on Saturday, Dani was again in fine form winning
‘Another win in Belgium, I’m loving it! Today was the 2nd race of the weekend as I had a 3rd yesterday getting 2nd in the bunch sprint. Today’s race was faster and a lot more aggressive; the course was 6 km long and there were 15 laps. There were lots of attacks but none stayed away. I made sure I stayed near the front and covered any moves that looked dangerous! I knew I had to be first round the last corner so tested the finish by winning a prime with about 6 laps to go. With half a lap to go Helen got on the front with me on her wheel. She kept the pace high enough to keep me close to the front and out of trouble. I had one sprint into the final corner which I hit first and another sprint to the line. Once I kicked I just put my head down and saw no-one coming round,’ Dani commented after the race.
‘It was really important for us today. We’re building very quickly toward the Tour of Limousin (UCI 2.2) in July. It’s from now onwards that the team are together a lot working on specific areas to get ready for the harder challenges that lie ahead in the UCI races. Britt, Annie, Helen and Dani are all going to play important roles in the races in the second half of the season, so it was great to see them ride so well together today,’ said team manager Stefan Wyman .
Dani added, ‘I’ve had some great results recently and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season with the team. I’m going back the UK now to get ready for the Horizon Fitness GP on Thursday and will follow that up with a 2 day race in the UK before the National Champs. Of course that’s going to be a hard race, but you never know what’s going to happen at Nationals. It looks like a tough course.’
Stefan added, ‘We really have got an exciting young team together, and I’m looking forward to the coming weeks. It’s going to be interesting to see how they all respond as the race intensity goes up. The Nationals will be a big challenge as Cervelo should be very hard to beat. But we see that as a good opportunity to have the team together for a few days and use it as a stepping stone for the next events. We’re really focused on the performance of the riders, not the result and it really good to see Annie have solid results this weekend. She is moving forward fast and will be getting stronger as the summer goes on. Britt is also better each week and will get her first taste of racing in the UK this week in the Horizon Fitness GP. It should feel like home for a Dutch rider to be in a town centre crit, so we’ll see how that goes.’
