Fan Activites Part of RealCyclist.com Pro Team Camp in Georgia Fans of pro cycling are invited to attend a Team Presentation Event at a winery and a Recreational Bicycle Ride during the February training camp of RealCyclist.com Pro Team in Dahlonega, Georgia.
DAHLONEGA, GEORGIA (January 31, 2011) — Spring training is for sports teams other than baseball now. Pitchers, catchers and cyclists report to camps in February. For pro cycling, it means the new RealCyclist.com Pro Cycling Team is headed to the north Georgia mountain community of Dahlonega. The RealCyclist.com Pro Team, owned and operated by On The Rivet Management (OTRM), will hold its inaugural training camp for athletes, support staff and sponsors from February 4-12, 2011 in Dahlonega, Georgia. OTRM will include two special events that will be open to the general public and media on February 11 and 12.
“We have a diverse team with 13 pro riders representing four continents. It is a home-field advantage to hold our first camp in an area where OTRM is based, and five of our riders live in the Southeast. But we also selected Dahlonega and Lumpkin County for the proximity to some of the best mountain climbs any time of the year in the United States. The team will use the same climbs that were used in the Tour de Georgia cycling race,” said Jason Kriel, managing partner of OTRM and sports manager for the Pro Team.
This training camp is unique because it is one of the few times that Directeur Sportif Gord Fraser will have his entire squad together in one place. The Team will use eight days in and around Dahlonega to adjust new equipment, like the new De Rosa bicycles and components from Shimano. New orange and white team kits from Louis Garneau were introduced in mid January and will be used for the first time at training camp. The Team will also focus on formalizing a race schedule and developing relationships with fans, media representatives and sponsors.
At the end of a week of intense training, the Team will host two special events. On Friday, February 11, the general public and media are invited to attend a Team Presentation Event for a chance to meet all the pro athletes and enjoy food/drinks with the staff and team patrons. Monteluce Winery & Estates will host this special event from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Tickets are available online for $49 each, and all attendees will receive gift packs from the Team and its sponsors. The Team will announce its new Patron Program for its fans at the Team Presentation Event.
On Saturday, February 12, recreational cyclists are invited to enjoy a bicycle ride in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains with all the members of the Team, including renowned climber Francisco “Paco” Mancebo Pérez from Spain. The ride, “Una Vuelta Con Paco”, begins at 9:30 a.m. from Hancock Park in Dahlonega. There is no fee for the ride, but all cyclists must wear a helmet, use their own bicycle, and sign a waiver.
The RealCyclist.com Pro Cycling Team is an elite U.S.-based UCI Continental squad, which will compete in National Racing Calendar and UCI America Tour events. For all competitions, the Team will be directed by Fraser, the winningest North American road cyclist in recent history with over 200 titles over 23 years of racing. Fraser, who competed in three Olympic Games for Canada, is in his third year as a professional team director. Climbers on the team include Spanish star Mancebo, Colombia native, Cesar Grajales (resident of Decatur, Ga.) and Dutchman Thomas Rabou.
